Todd Boquet, Program Coordinator

Vocation:  Project Manager / Ministry

Hometown: Houma, Louisiana

Background: Todd grew up in a small fishing community on the Southern bayous of Southeast Louisiana. Of Cajun and Creole descent, he spent most of his days as a youth hunting, fishing, and enjoying good food with family. Life wasn’t always sunshine and rainbows for Todd, as he found himself going down the wrong path early on; causing all sorts of problems for him and consequently landing him in prison for most of his young adult life. With a sincere desire to live a better life, Todd gave his life to Christ and strives to be the man that, he says, “I always knew God had called me to be.”

Family: Todd lives in Compton, California with his beautiful wife Gabby, their baby boy Tyson, two step-kids Ava and Avery, and his mother-in-law Kathleen. Todd openly testifies how great a blessing it is to have the family he now has. He recalls the death of his mother when he was just three years old, and the tragic car accident that took the life of his first wife Erika, along with their three children, Isabella, Elisabeth, and Tytis in 2018. “I prayed for God to bless me with another chance at being a husband and a father. God had mercy on me and answered my prayers” says Todd.

What do you hope the Compton Initiative will accomplish? “It’s my hope, that The Compton Initiative would be a catalyst through which people’s lives are transformed, and that every man, woman, and child in Compton would experience healing, recovery, and blessings so abundant that it overflows into surrounding cities. Through our new initiative, Bright Lights Of Compton, we are striving towards building communities where unity, family, and love are nurtured.”

What is your favorite thing about a Compton work day? “The thing that I appreciate most about participating in a work day is the opportunity to work and serve alongside my neighbors. Meeting new people and establishing relationships with my fellow Compton Residents gives me a sense of belonging! At the end of the day, when the work is done, the streets are clean, and the neighborhood looks beautiful, I feel great knowing that I’ve contributed to something that benefits everyone around me! It’s a reminder that the greatest gifts in life aren’t received, but given.”

How has the Compton Initiative helped you grow? “The Compton Initiative gave me an opportunity to give my life to something that benefits others’ lives more than my own. I’ve been embraced like family, valued as a friend, and shown the kind of love that holds no record of wrongs. All this is so different from anything I’ve ever experienced before, and every day it helps me to be a better husband for my wife, a better father for my children, and a better man for all those around me.”
