Background: Rafer is a veteran Los Angeles County Deputy Sheriff in the City of Compton who joined the department in 1986 and has also served as the head pastor of Faith Inspirational Missionary Baptist Church in Compton since 1995. As a sheriff’s deputy, he is responsible for the safety and well-being of the citizens in the City of Compton. As a pastor, he guides his congregation in serving God and the community. He enjoys worshiping, working, shopping, and educating his own children in the area in which he grew up.

Family: Rafer and his wife Natalie have been married since 1987 and have six dynamic children.

What do you hope the Compton Initiative will accomplish? “I hope that the Compton Initiative will bring a sense of community to the residents of Compton.”

What is your favorite thing about a Compton work day? “My favorite thing about the work day is seeing different nationalities and races coming together for one purpose, to lift a city.”

How has the Compton Initiative helped you grow? “The Compton Initiative has caused my faith to grow. I see with my own eyes that God still controls the hearts of his people.”
